Efficient business processes have always been important to UMB: workflows should mesh seamlessly, data should flow correctly, and workspaces should be created exactly where they are needed. That is why, back in 2020, UMB decided to automate the provisioning of SharePoint and Teams along the entire customer journey via the Seamless API — creating workspaces directly from HubSpot, Vertec, and ServiceNow.
Over time, several thousand workspaces were created — workspaces that now had to be migrated to the new Seamless platform as part of the retirement of the SharePoint Add-ins.
The challenge
And this is where it got interesting: Microsoft 365 still distinguishes only two permission levels today — Owner and Member. Especially in private Microsoft Teams or SharePoint Teams Sites, this means that access is controlled by the owners.
But how can this limited model be reconciled with the requirements of a fine-grained, company-wide permissions concept?
Seamless solves this challenge by combining group and SharePoint permissions. This makes it possible to provide employees with role-based data access.
